Maya Manor is a historic mansion turned boutique hotel. The original building of the mansion was built by the first chief of police in Nepal, Toran Sumsher Rana in 1935. This was also the official residence of Chinese Ambassadors for 10 years in the 1960’s. In 1974, the Sakya family of the KGH Group of Hotels and Resorts bought the mansion and lived here until it was converted into a boutique hotel in 2016. In 2008, The Carter Center moved to the south wing of the mansion to monitor the historic election that marked the transition from the monarchical rule to parliamentary democracy in Nepal. President Carter came regularly to the Maya Manor to oversee the mission.
