About Thapathali Chess Park

Thapathali Chess Park is a popular open-air chess gathering spot located near Thapathali Chowk along the Bagmati corridor in Kathmandu. It is not a formal tourist park, but rather a well-known community space where chess lovers meet daily to play casual and competitive games. The park has been active for many years and is recognized as one of the most important informal chess hubs in Nepal. People from different backgrounds—students, office workers, retirees, and even experienced tournament players—gather here, especially in the afternoon and evening, to play under a simple sheltered area with chess boards set up.
