About Radio Sagarmatha

Radio Sagarmatha is Nepal’s first independent community radio station, established in 1997 and based in Lalitpur (Kathmandu Valley). It is widely recognized as the first community radio in South Asia and broadcasts on FM 102.4 MHz. It was founded by the Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) with the goal of giving a platform to public-interest journalism and community voices. Unlike commercial radio stations, Radio Sagarmatha focuses more on social issues, public awareness, education, environment, governance, and community development.
