About Cherdung Cheese Factory

Cherdung Cheese Factory is a traditional yak milk cheese production center located in the Cherdung Hill area near Jiri, Dolakha District, Nepal. It is one of the historic dairy facilities established under Nepal’s Himalayan cheese development program, where milk from yak and chauri (yak–cow hybrid) herding communities is processed into high-quality dairy products. The factory mainly produces yak cheese and chhurpi (hard Himalayan cheese), which are well-known local delicacies in the mountain region. The factory is situated in a scenic high-altitude environment and is typically accessed through a hike from Jiri, making it both a production site and a small attraction for visitors interested in Himalayan agriculture and cheese-making traditions.
